cf.Objective() Friday Keynote
I suppose it would just be mean to say, "You had to be there". But...
Jason Delmore presented this morning's keynote. He's the product manager for CF. And you can tell he is committed and passionate about his job. (He mentioned that he hasn't taken a vacation day for 14 months.)
First off, this is an Adobe release of ColdFusion. You can tell by the Adobe product integrations: Acrobat Reader, Connect presos...
Ok, mostly the Acrobat stuff. But, it's pretty significant.
Some New CF Features
cffeed, cfimage, cfpdf, cfpresentation, cfthreadcffeed is for syndicating things very simply to RSS and I think other syndication formats.
cfimage is, well, what it sounds like. This looked very feature rich!
cfpdf is for doing that significant PDF generation/integration that I mentioned.
cfpresentation let's you generate on the fly Acrobat Connect style presentations. (keep in mind they aren't actually meetings like you have in connect, just presentations.) We already talked at work about how we'd like to use this feature to do Guided Executive Reporting after we saw it on monday at the Scorpio Tour Event.
cfthread, I think, was announced this morning for the first time! It allows you to spawn threads to execute what's between it's opening and closing tags. However they did not go into a lot of detail about this yet.
Summary
Adobe is going to be giving us a really great feature rich release of ColdFusion with Scorpio and with big performance improvements to boot. Some of this comes from current JVM support (finally).
Oh, and there will be even more server platforms supported. Including Intel Mac.
